Vahan Oknayan, AMFT

Hi, I’m Vahan! (two syllables, just like it’s spelled).  I’m an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist with an MA in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University and a BFA in Acting from CSU Fullerton.  My background in the arts led me to explore how creativity, expression, and the body connect to mental health, which continues to shape my clinical work.

I work with individuals (ages 9+), couples, and families navigating depression, anxiety, trauma, behavioral issues, OCD, neurodivergence (including ADHD and autism), identity, sexuality, and relationship challenges.  My approach is integrative and client-centered, drawing from humanistic, psychoanalytic, cognitive-behavioral, somatic-experiential, narrative, and expressive arts therapies among others.  I focus on helping clients explore their inner world, reduce physical-emotional tension, and reconnect with what brings them meaning and vitality.

One of the most essential elements in fostering progress and realistic change in therapy is the relationship between client and therapist itself.  As a neurodivergent person and member of the LGBTQ+ community, I care deeply about creating affirming, inclusive spaces that support self-understanding, growth, and autonomy.  Therapy should be grounded, collaborative, sometimes even fun, and always tailored to each client’s unique needs. I look forward to meeting you and seeing if we’re a good fit.
